On Friday afternoon 7 March, Vrije Universiteit, Sprekende geschiedenis and DANS are organising the national network afternoon Oral History – Sustainable Sharing. We cordially invite you to participate in this afternoon.
It is impossible to imagine the world of research and heritage without oral history. By sustainably storing oral history collections digitally and sharing them responsibly, researchers, museums and community archives guarantee access to these unique historical sources for later generations and create multi-voicedness in our heritage and research collections.
But what are the best ways to share oral history interviews in a way that enables effective reuse while doing justice to their intersubjective nature? What ethical and privacy issues do you face? Which metadata, infrastructures and repositories are best suited to the purpose of your oral history project? And who can you turn to for help?
We will discuss this with oral historians, collection and data managers and digital heritage specialists from research institutes, museums and community archives during the cross-sectoral network afternoon Oral History – Sustainable Sharing. We will start the afternoon with a keynote by Nadia Bouras. Then, in two thematic break-out sessions, using concrete examples from the three sectors, we will identify good practices in the field of sustainable digital storage and access to oral history interviews and together formulate and prioritise concrete opportunities for improvement. After the conclusions and next steps, we will conclude the afternoon with a networking reception.
