H. Daalder, R.P. van den Helm and R.L. Schuursma interviewed Willem Drees about socialism and Dutch politics. The ten interviews yielded a total of 19.5 hours of material. This is a wealth of information for research on former Prime Minister Drees.

Professor of political science Daalder (1928-2016) researched Drees for almost his entire life. Together with Jelle Gaemers, he wrote five books about the popular politician. The final volume, Prime Minister and elder statesman, was published in 2014. In it there are wonderful examples of Drees’ modesty: he usually walked to work, simply stood in line for the cinema and preferred to eat at home with his wife To at lunchtime. See one of Daalder’s articles on Drees: “Het socialisme van Willem Drees”
