Our Mission

“Sprekende geschiedenis” is the national hub for oral history in the Netherlands. We promote collaboration, knowledge exchange and innovation by:

• Sharing and developing expertise;

• Supporting heritage organisations, researchers and creatives in making oral history accessible and visible;

• Strengthening the infrastructure by improving the visibility and findability of collections through our website;

• Promoting inclusion and diversity in historical storytelling;

• Raising awareness of the value of oral history among policymakers and funders.

Our Vision

“Sprekende geschiedenis” envisions a future in which oral history is a natural and recognised source and method for history, heritage, research and social reflection. Together with museums, archives, heritage institutions, educational bodies and community initiatives, we foster cross-pollination and innovation across the field.
