Learning from hearsay

Learning by Hearing offers a practical guide for an oral history project in secondary education. It includes detailed examples and handy teaching sheets that can be used immediately when working out the details. This script is meant to inspire teachers to start their own oral history project.

Oral history is a total project. The first condition is to stimulate the pupils’ interest and to make them aware of the time frame of the topic they are going to investigate. Then there is the whole process of preparing for the interview, conducting and processing interviews, presenting the information obtained from the interviews, up to and including the preservation of this oral source.
